Hotel Byzantino sits behind the castle walls of Monemvasia, a thousand year old island fortress  on the east coast of the Peloponnese Peninsula. The only difference between a millennium ago and now are a few modern conveniences.  The place is authentic, right down to the deep dormer windows. And it doesn't take much to imagine  a young soldier peering out and seeing the Venetians, the Byzantines or the Ottomans sailing across the horizon, all of whom at one time or another had laid claim to this Rock. The balcony is made of stone, like almost every other man-made object in your view.  Terracotta roofs abound and the blue Aegean plays it's tidal rhythm below the castle walls. It is a visual feast and one that you will remember for the rest of your life.  Hotel Byzantino's rooms are spread throughout the castle town, but we assure you that room/balcony #6 and #7 (providing you can climb the spiral staircase) will have you celebrating like a court jester.  Or a king.
