It's a toss-up as to what's
better, the balcony view of Nafplio or the
generosity of the hotel owners, the Zotos
brothers - both are exceptional. Being from
Canada, the very thought of an orange tree is
enchanting, but to have several near our balcony
was pure delight. Other plants added to the
balcony aesthetic and the remarkable stonework
seemed to take us back in time. The woodwork
around the doors and windows gave the place a
cottage-like feel. The room itself was small,
but brimmed with charm. Pension Marianna
sits just below the rock of Acronafplia and very
close to the Venetian walls, however your view
is in the opposite direction, overlooking the
crystal blue waters of the Aegean and the old
town. Breakfast is served buffet style on
the open terrace. The terrace also offers up a
superb view of Nafplio and is a wonderful space
to hang out with friends. Sitting lonely
on the corner of the terrace is a beer
fridge. Make sure you introduce yourself -
just let the friendly Zotos know.
*Pension means a
guesthouse or boarding house in continental
Europe and per the definition, never elegant.
Pension Marianna must be the exception.
